-- The Basilica of Our Lady of Fatima, in Portugal, built on the site where three peasant children claimed to have seen the "Virgin of the Rosary" in a series of appearances in 1917. The sanctuary receives pilgrims from all over the world, pArcticularly on May 13th, a day dedicated to Our Lady of Fatima. It was on May 13th, 1981 that Pope John Paul II was shot in the Vatican, and he claimed that Our Lady of Fatima helped keep him alive, so he visited the sanctuary one year later to show his gratitude.
