Image of The Famous St. Basil's Cathedral
-- The cathedral was commissioned by Ivan IV known as Ivan the Terrible and built between 1555 and 1561 in Moscow to commemorate the capture of the Khanate of Kazan. Saint Basil's is located at the southeast end of Red Square, just across from the Spasskaya Tower of the Kremlin. This is most likely the most famous church in Russia, Napoleon wanted to take it back to France with him and when he could not, ordered it to be blown up, but rain put out the fuses to the gun powder. Stalin also wanted to remove the church, but changed his mind after the uproar over his decision.
