Picture of Christmas Star And The New Residence
-- Erected under Wolf Dietrich, the New Residence attained completion just a few years after the Old Residence which it faces at the other end of Residenzplatz. A prominent feature is the bell tower from which the Salzburg Carillon resounds three times a day (7, 11 am and 6 pm). Originally intended for a tower in Breda, Holland that fell victim to fire, the 35 bells-cast by Melchior de Haze in Antwerp in 1688/89-finally emerged in Salzburg in 1694 after completing a European zigzag course.
