"As the 4th of July approaches, some of us
here are doing some reflecting back on our youth, and remembering what this
holiday means to us. I remember hot days, swimming holes, and cool nights lying
on your back in a park watching exciting fireworks. Hot dogs, and Cokes (tm) in
a bottle with a straw. Who hasn't fired off cherry bombs, bottle rockets, roman
candles, and sparklers. It seemed like the only time of the year that we were
all pyromaniacs, and it was o.k.
As I have gotten older, those old memories are wonderful, but this 4th of July
also reminds me of the danger our Country is in, and the bad times we have gone
through in the past. It reminds me that I had better get that flag out tomorrow
morning, just to let my mixed-use neighborhood know that there is a real
American living here. Lastly, it reminds me that I am grateful that I live in
the best of all countries, a country worth fighting for, a country that gives
back whatever you give it, and more." Greg Ward.
