I belive that great pictures come from light, talent and technique. Pictures do not come from fancy stuff like the most expensive lenses, the newest camera and that one special filter. Sure this all helps and can provide a better image, but if the conditions are wrong you just wont get this one picture where you think, wow. You only get something (if you are lucky) like: Nice, next picture.
For this reason I try to improve my technique first and afterwards my gear.

Tamrom 200-400mm 5.6
Nikkor 28 - 80mm 3.5 - 5.6
Nikkor 70 - 300mm G
Tokina 19 - 35mm
B/W circ polarizer
Bogen Tripod and ballhead
SB-600 Flash
I also belive that you get the picture right in the camera and not in the post processing. And I only use post processing to create a perfect pictures based on a good picture...
