The organization was incorporated in 1995 and registered as a Nonprofit 501(c)(3). The mission of the organization is to find permanent homes for unwanted Siberian Huskies, provide public education on the breed, and assist Siberian owners in dealing with training issues.

Since its beginning, there have been over 1,000 of these Husky dogs that have found permanent homes though the hard work of our volunteers. Typically, dogs helped by DVSHR are placed in an approved foster home, where the dog receives the care, training and socialization needed to make the dog a good pet for a loving family.

Each year the DVSHR publishes their annual calendar, which is their single largest annual fund raising event.
