"This HTML color code tool is based on classic color theory pioneered by Johannes Itten in the mid 1900s. Johannes Itten developed a new kind of color wheel that changed the way color was seen. This wheel is still in use today."
When I was odering the book "The Color Star" by Johannes Itten at Amazon.com, I came across a very interesting review: "If you came to me for a job in graphic design and you told me you hadn't studied Itten, I wouldn't hire you."
A point in case: The Johannes Itten wheel is the RYB (The primary colors are red, yellow and blue) wheel, not the RGB wheel (The primary colors are red, green and blue) that we have to deal every time we turn on our computer.
In his book, The Art of Color,Johannes ltten covers color principles in detail, and identifies strategies for successful color mixing based on the seven color contrasts: Hue, Light-Dark, Cold-Warm, Complementary, Simultaneous, and Saturation.
A very good article about Johannes Itten is located at: www.dezignare.com
