detailed description
: Starting in 1215, when the Magna Carta was signed by King John, there was a period of nearly 400 years when, from time to time, Parliament and the Monarch would disagree, sometimes violently, about which had the final say in decisions.
In the 17th Century there was a Civil War in England when battles were fought between armies representing the King the Cavaliers and Parliament. Parliament won and King Charles I was eventually executed, although his son, Charles II, was restored to the throne a few years later.
