Today we are FASCINATED by Wisdom of Nature.
"Photography is - Recognizing the Moment and being able to capture the moment,
as we experience it through our perceptions and senses. Photography is - seeing
what is, what is not, and what can be. Photography is - paying close attention
to detail and learning a little bit more about ourselves, the people and
objects around us, and theworld we live in, as we know it. Photography is -
appreciating the beauty and substance of what we can see and our ability to
translate this beauty to others. Photography is - a marriage of science and art
through the application of technical knowledge and the expression of thoughts
and emotions. Through all of this, photography is - Preserving History."

A few months ago we started looking around at sites where
we could possibly place links to our site. We looked at
http://www.profotos.com , and thought - "no, they won't accept
us". We just started a week ago. We were flat wrong, Larry accepted us, and
gave us a lot of support...
Larry, how many people have you made feel good? I think - a LOT. We will not be
the first and not the last who will tell you "Thank you very much for creating
such a warm and welcome environment at profotos.com for everybody who loves
photography."

Today we are honored to devote our story to Larry as a professional
photographer.
Scenic landscapes, breathtaking skylines, powerful still-lifes - it's what his
photography is all about..
Larry's answer for Our question "Do you have a favorite category of
photography? " was very short. "I love landscapes!".
Let me try to say what I think about your landscape photography.
When I look at your photos - my everyday small thoughts about thousands of
things I should do today are gone.
Everything becomes not so important compared to the Wisdom of Nature.
The confusion of everyday life is forgotten. The beauty of your landscapes
make me peacefull.
I am finding not adventure, but a power of the natural world, not only beauty,
but spirit
We were not suprised when Larry selected for this story his photos taken in the
states of Washington and Oregon.
"Washington state is among the most pristine areas in the United States. With
it's abundance of waterfalls, mountains, wildlife and coastlines, Washington is
one of the most beautiful states I have had the pleasure of traveling to."

FeaturePics: From where do you get your inspiration?
Larry: My inspiration comes from a variety of sources. The primary inspiration I
receive in producing photographs is through nature and experiencing the
wilderness and great outdoors fist hand. The smell of fresh air, wind rustling
through the trees, waves crashing on the shore, streams and waterfalls rushing
through the forest, and birds chirping overhead are all inspirations.

FeaturePics: How did you get your start in photography?
Larry: My start in photography began with the purchase of a Ricoh 35mm camera. I
purchased the camera to take pictures of scenery around my home in Western
Pennsylvania and before I knew it, I was hooked. I entered a photography
contest within the first month of owning the camera and won a couple of awards.
The rest is history.
|
FeaturePics: Which camera(s) do you use?
Larry: Canon 20D
|
FeaturePics: How do you see the technology evolving
with digital cameras in the future? Is all that's missing are large(r)
resolutions when compared to film cameras, or something else too?
Larry: I see digital camera technology taking over the entire photography market
as a whole. While there will be some photographers who will use film, most will
use digital in commercial and stock photo applications. The resolution of most
high end digital cameras on the market right now is equal to, or greater than
that of 35mm film cameras.
|
FeaturePics: What would you change or add to digital
photography in the way of technology?
Larry: The main issue I face with digital photography is dust on the imaging
sensor. A better way to clean the sensor is my #1 improvement wish.
|
FeaturePics: We have met two kinds of photographers:
the ones that believe that a picture should be "good enough" as shot and others
that use filters and image manipulation with Photoshop or some other software
to get a better/corrected result. Which group do you believe is "right" in
regards to the way a photograph is presented?
Larry: I believe photography is an art and should be treated as such. If a
photograph is created to express the photographer's emotions and vision about
the image they are creating, then it is my opinion that they should have full
control to manipulate the image to achieve the result they are after. This
opinion does not apply to documentary or editorial images, which are created to
document reality. Documentary & editorial images should be left as-is, or
the reality of the image will be skewed.
|
FeaturePics: Is your work always for a client, or do
you make pictures for your own pleasure? What is the percentage for each?
Larry: My work is a combination of pleasure and client photography. About 80% of
my photography is created for my own use and sale as stock & fine art
imagery and the remaining 20% is created for clients.
|
FeaturePics: Have you been inspired by any
particular artist/photographer?
Larry: I have been inspired by several photographers, including: Galen Rowell;
Ansel Adams; Ray Atkeson; Lee Friedlander and many others...
|
FeaturePics: Do you have dreams that you would like
to realize?
Larry: My dream is to create as many images as I can at the highest quality
possible and share them with the world. Many people are not as fortunate as I
am to travel and see the world and create images of my experiences through a
lens.
|
FeaturePics: What is one of your favorite places to
travel to take photographs?
Larry: By far, one of my favorite places to travel for photography is the
Pacific Northwest of the United States. This area has some pristine wilderness
that is not found in any other area of the country, or even the world.
|
FeaturePics: What do you like most about being a
photographer?
Larry: The flexibility to set my own schedule and the ability to share my
experience and vision with others through the images I produce.
|
FeaturePics: What do you hate about being a
photographer?
Larry: Nothing! I love it all!
|
FeaturePics: What advice do you have for someone who
simply wants to improve their photography skills?
Larry: Experiment, read, apply and enjoy! Try everything you can think of to see
the world from new perspectives and angles.
Too many budding photographers start by emulating the work of other
photographers. While this may be a good way to learn how to create similar
photos, it does staunch creativity. Do everything possible to create unique
views of the world around you and learn as much as you can through good
reading. Read, read, read!
