"Characteristics of Impressionist painting include visible
brushstrokes, light colors, open composition, emphasis on light in its changing
qualities (often accentuating the effects of the passage of time), ordinary
subject matter, and unusual visual angles."

It is hard to believe, but Artists painted their landscapes indoors before
Impressionists broke every rule of the French Academy of Fine Arts.
Impressionists started to paint real landscapes without classic ruins and
Biblical themes. They started to work outdoors, or "en plein air".
Most of the Imressionists had cameras (with plates). Monet had four, Degas
experimented with one of the early Kodak portable models.

Why I am talking about that occured more than 130 years ago?
I asked my friends to associate the above image with 2-3 words.
"Colorful, relaxing, art, earth, countryside, peaceful, moody, childhood,
natural, scenic ..." - was the answer.
I would add "painting, impressionism"
I can see colors, applied side by side with a little mixing. I can see how Kiya
brought out the bold reds, yellows, greens, browns and transparent blues. These
colors mix in my eyes again to complete the impression of colorful autumn and
the beauty of our Earth.

Not because I would like to compare, but just to think what Claude Monet
photographs would have been like if he had used a modern camera...
And he had lived on a Pennsylvania farm?
Kiya and Monet would have agreed - no depressing colors!
Yes to natural lighting, freshness and openess!
Let's capture the very real-life moments

Here is another image I admire so much.
Somewhere, I read an article on how to transform 2 images into one 3d image.
I don't remember the complete "cut and paste in Photoshop" algorithms, but I
remember the end of the article: "Put on 3d glasses and check the results."
A link where I can obtain 3d glasses has been provided.
I don't need 3d glasses to see the depth on this image, but I see how far I
should go for my dream.
And while researchers are experimenting with laser light sources and
galvanometric mirrors to display 3d Images, I would enjoy this image hanging on
my wall.

I started to talk about the "blue" series of
Kiya's images. I should like to continue.
When talking about the nature of blues, people say "blue is calming", "brings
peace". I think Kiya's "blue" has a "sound" quality. It is very quiet. . The
silver accent adds not only a rich appearance, but makes the photographs
"absolutely silent". Sometimes only the sound of an a snowflake or drop a water
can be heard. Can you hear it?

About Kiya:
A lifelong resident of Pittsburgh, PA. My love for the "still image" developed
at a young age and was inspired by the work of my talented older brother whose
breathtaking images continue to amaze me. About five years ago, recognizing the
advantages of the new digital age, I decided it was time to get my first
camera. Set free to shoot as many images as I could fit on a flash card, and to
experiment without limitation, I've become a true enthusiast. I love all types
of photography, but what I enjoy shooting most are images that capture emotion.
For that reason, portraiture is my favorite.

Impression: soleil levant
Claude Monet
|
About Claude Monet
Monet, Claude (b. Nov. 14, 1840, Paris, Fr.--d. Dec. 5, 1926,
Giverny)
French painter, initiator, leader, and unswerving advocate of the Impressionist
style.
He is regarded as the archetypal Impressionist in that his devotion to the
ideals of the movement was unwavering throughout his long career, and it is
fitting that one of his pictures--Impression: Sunrise (Musée Marmottan, Paris;
1872)--gave the group his name.

| A few comments and answers from Kiya:
|
Kiya, can you refer us to a source
where we can see your older brother's paintings?
My brother did quite a few paintings/drawing
when he was very young, but also photography.
He's done shows in Oregon and his work has recently been exhibited at DIVA.
He loves abstract/landscape photography.
He spends every spare moment traveling the landscape of Oregon and
photographing its beauty.
He recently started posting images on SmugMug,
http://brizz.smugmug.com/
We took a look at this
site and recommend it to everybody. Kiya, do you paint yourself?
No, I don't paint. I would very much like to
try it in the future.
|
What about reading? Do you read photo
magazines?
I don't read too many photo magazines. I
spend countless hours reading DPreview's Retouching forum. The photographer's
contributions, they are amazing!
|
If you had a chance to travel with
your camera right now - where would you go?
I would travel throughout the US going from
Pow-Wow to Pow-Wow.
I love the Native American people and their culture.
I love their dance, song, dress and art; and above that, their beauty of
spirit.
That spirit beauty, so evident in their forefather's writings, I see in the
face of their children. Their respect for the Creator, their fellow man and
nature, we would all do well to emulate. ... Photographers love to record what
their eye sees most beautiful.?
Note: The PowWow is an American Indian gathering, focusing on dance, song and
family celebration. Read more at
