    Death Valley Weekend Field Trip
Scotty's Castle is named after Walter Scott. Some say Walter made big money making promises about gold mines that didn't exist. One of his victims was Albert Johnson, a treasurer for the National Life Insurance Company of Chicago. Johnson came to Death Valley to take a look at the mystery gold mine on a personal tour of Death Valley, and decided it would be a nice place to live, so he began construction on the ranch.
But most likely Scotty was a talented storyteller....

His grave sits at the top of a hill and you can read excellent words there.
I got 4 things to live by:
  • Don't say nothing that will hurt anybody.
  • Don't give advice -- nobody will take it anyway.
  • Don't complain.
  • Don't explain.

Mesquite Sand Dunes offer good photographic opportunities either at sunrise or sunset. The origin of sand dunes is very complex. We have found an explanation how ripples and dunes form at Death Valley geology field trip, read it, but still wondering how wind can produce so beautiful "Sinuous" sculptures of sand...

Salt Creek. Death Valley National Park, California, USA. Salt Creek flows on the north of Furnace Creek. There is a species of fish, pupfish, found nowhere else in the world. We couldn't take a picture of this fish because they are active only in the early spring. In winter time they sleep in the mud at the bottom of the creek. In spring when the water warms, Pupfish begin their mating ritual. The breeding males become iridescent blue in color and defend their territory, chasing away all other fish except females that are ready to spawn.

The largest pupfish, this two-inch-long leviathan can live in waters from a frigid 40° F up to a scalding 112° F. It can endure the lowest levels of oxygen of any fish species, and a range of salinity from no-salt to twice the salt concentration of seawater.   Science Now

Ubehebe Crater was formed as a result of a rising column of molten basalt coming into contact with the overlying water-soaked bedrock. The result was that the water was almost instantaneously turned into steam, and a violent release of steam-powered energy blasted away the confining rock above. The first of the Ubehebe crater about 600 feet deep was born 3,000 years ago.

We are not geologists and it would be better if you read about the largest and youngest volcanic feature at Death Valley geology field trip
