Chester England - A City in History
Chester is a city with a long and interesting history. Starting with the Romans, Chester went on to become a notable Saxon town. It was still a major military strong hold by the time of the Civil War in the 17th Century. Chester was one of the most important seaports in the country! Chester has the most complete set of City Walls in the country. The shops and buildings have retained their unique half timbered character with some of the oldest shop frontages in the world.
Dordogne France

A trip down the Dordogne river provides a Chateau at every turn, with houses clinging to the sheer rock faces of the riverbank. The nearby towns are full of charm and history in equal measure. Pubs, Hotels,Taverns, are many throughout country Western Australia. Many with history of pioneers who settled this country being it farming, mining, timber or transport. These hotel were constructed using the best building materials available.Mostly Brick and Timber with iron roof. Second story was always a feature along with wide verandas on all sides and big open beer gardens where locals gathered to drink,chinwag or dance and listen to the local music band play. Many travelers would stay overnight in rooms on the second story or lodge for long pieriods while working in the town. History is embedded in these pubs for our future generations to see. Many huge decisions by pioneers and farming communities were made ,ideas that changed our lives were made in these pubs. These pubs were the heart of a community where they played darts, pool and listened and danced to the local band on weekends afetr a long hard weeks work. These objects all once had a very prominent place and use in life. They were all new once and history created by there use in some small way. All have there own character even now after many years of just laying around growing old and deteriorating. Once loved for and cared for only to be discarded after life change and improvement in the way we use things. Love all these things and I hope through these photos they will be remembered.

Scotland' s Iona Abbey : IN 563, Saint Columba camefrom Ireland to Iona.He founded a Monastery on this site.The abbey grew quickly and soon became one of the largest religious centres in Western Europe. Monks from Iona set up religious centres as far away as Switzerland.The world famous illuminated manuscript the Book of Kells was produced by the monks of Iona in the years leading up to 800. IN 806, everyone at the abbey was found dead.This has been attributed to a Viking massacre.Three other Viking attacks are recorded with eleven years of this date.
