Bucharest: beauty and decay - ecstasy and agony
Bucharest is the capital city of Romania, a country situated in south – east of Europe. A city between two different worlds: Occident and Orient, trapped between old and new. Its eclectic architecture is a mix of historical, interbellum, Communist-era, and modern. In the period between the two World Wars, the city's elegant architecture and the sophistication of its elite earned Bucharest the nickname of the "Paris of the East" or "Little Paris". Bucharest follows no single rule of urban design. Churches are everywhere, at least 270, big or small; they are calling people to prey and worship God. The Romanians are Orthodox, but they are very tolerant with other religions, like Catholics, Muslims, Hebrew, or smaller ones. It’s not unusual to find in a walk through Bucharest a synagogue or a catholic church. Bucharest has under-privileged and very reach people, like other towns. I try to show you in this collection a small part of this town. It’s also a city full of wires and cables, like a huge spider-web; they are connecting all the houses, buildings and constructions.
