I am no where near a "professional" photographer (as my several "rejected" images will prove), but I have always loved taking pictures. Grew up kind of shy so I never wanted to be "in front" of the camera (I'm a bit different now; much more the "ham.") My first photography class was years ago in the late 70's during my junior year in high school. We used a 35mm "something," maybe a Pentax, that our school loaned out to students during the semester. We had an assignment to just "get out there." I took several photos with black and white film. As it turns out, the photos I thought were best WEREN'T. I'd taken a random picture of a toddler reaching into a candy machine and my teacher picked that one. It was then I learned that a picture could/should tell a story. It was also during this time that I had the opportunity to develop my own film and I really liked that and the things you could manually do with a photograph. I liked "the work" that had to go into getting a "good" picture. Well, then came the point-and-shoot 35 mm cameras. A part of me always felt like I was "cheating" when I captured "perfect" images, but that was short-lived as I quickly fell into the "great technology" trap. I recall how I felt when I got my first "good" camera, which was an Olympus Twin Infinity 35mm. I WAS IN HEAVEN! Still have it as a matter of fact and I think it STILL puts out great pictures (not at all the standards of today's digitals but good enough).
I am currently using an Olympus FE-115 and previously a Canon Powershot S400. I kind of like the Olympus better but maybe because it's still sort of new to me.
Now to figure out how to get these pictures to look better for featurepic!!! (smile) Does that involve getting a "better" camera or the photographer getting better?!?!? (smile again)
